A brief account of my journey to Organic & Non-toxic brands:

I got introduced to Organic brands in 2016 through a Youtube channel called “Sunkissalba” by Alba Ramos. Alba believes in organic beauty products and clean living. She shares her journey from using conventional toxic ingredients to safer, non-toxic organic ingredients. Through the channel, I was educated about the presence of toxins in our everyday skincare and makeup products. Needless to say, all the skincare and makeup products I have been using were loaded with harmful ingredients. In addition to that, some of the ingredients are so dangerous that it can lead to cancer, infertility and birth defects. Ever since that, I began to pay more attention to the ingredients in all the products I use.

Switching to Organic Skincare

Switching to organic products wasn’t a walk in the park. In fact, in my experience, “finding” authentic organic brands were both tiring and time-consuming. The label “ natural” on a product doesn’t define the credibility of the brand. For this reason, we should always examine the ingredients’ list. However, unfortunately, “the find” doesn’t end there either. Some brands can be way too low priced, but not necessarily be using all organic ingredients. While the top-listed 100 percent organic brands can be way too expensive for our budget. (I am not saying that you shouldn’t use expensive organic brands if you are OK to spend more, why not!).

In my opinion, brands that are both affordable & non- toxic are ideal for the majority. After 3 years of research and experiences, I manage to discover some of the genuine organic brands. Not only they are of great quality but also at affordable prices. I have used all these products. Most of them I love, while others were not so impressive. However, I have done my best to incorporate the best ones. I really hope that you find this post beneficial in some way.

10 Affordable Organic & Non-toxic brands

1. LILY LOLO

About:

This British mineral beauty brand was established ten years ago. They use organic ingredients in their products. The brand offers a wide variety of products from makeup to skincare.

What I  have used:

  • Finishing Powder( flawless silk)
  • Pressed eye shadow( in the shade Truffle Shuffle)
  • Pressed Blush( in the shade Life’s a Peach)
  • Natural Lipstick( in the shade French Flirt)

What I love 👍🏽:

The best part of this brand is that they are mineral cosmetics. This means they use ingredients that are chemical compounds that occur naturally in the pure form, such as zinc oxide, iron oxide. Mineral cosmetics are great for all types of skin including acne-prone. I was so thrilled to have found a brand with quality products. Moreover, all of the products are in affordable prices and made with organic ingredients!

What I don’t like 👎🏽:

Unfortunately, the brand doesn’t have a wide range of darker shades in the foundation.

This brand is guided by one principle, nature has the best answers for all skin problems. A beekeeper turned businessman, Burt Shavitz made an iconic beeswax lip balm to 180 other products. It’s one of the world’s leading natural personal care brands.

  • Matte Lip crayon ( in the shade Napa Vineyard)
  • Intense hydrating cream cleanser
  • Anti-blemish pore refining scrub
  • Super shiny mango shampoo
  • Citrus and Ginger body wash
  • Milk & Honey body lotion

What I love 👍🏽:

The best part for me is that the brand incorporates natural ingredients like Beeswax, shea butter, honey, and Royal Jelly. The product I highly recommend is the lip crayon. The one I bought has lovely shade and it kept the lips well moisturized.

What I don’t like 👎🏽:

I didn’t find a huge benefit from their skincare range. Limited shades in lip crayon was a bit depressing.

3. Fushi

The UK's leading Ethical Wellbeing Brand

About:

All of their products are made from the purest organic cold-pressed oils and freshly infused herbs. They source their products from the world’s most ethical producers.

What I have used:

  • BioVedic instant hydration cream
  • Extra virgin, cold-pressed Rosehip oil
  • Tea Tree essential oil
  • Organic Patchouli essential oil

What I love 👍🏽:

I am someone who is a great fan of essential oils. Mostly I use them for skin and as an air freshener for my home. Essential oils are a great alternative for synthetic air fresheners. I highly recommend this brand if you want to buy organic essential oils. They have got great collections. As far as I can tell, not many brands offer 100 pure extra virgin oils. Most of the brands which are claiming to be 100 % organic, hardly have 20 percent organic ingredients.

If you are someone who loves essential oils as an air freshener, I would say to try Patchouli essential oil. I guarantee you that the musky scent will enhance your mood.

What I don’t like 👎🏽:

The brand doesn’t actually produce a wide range of skincare products.

What I  have used:

  • Sensitive calming night cream
  • Hydrating body lotion

What I love 👍🏽:

I always look through the ingredient labels of the products I use. Some brands hide it while others make it so complicated that it takes a lifetime to find. But Lavera stands out for their honesty. They label their full list of ingredients and also they list out the chemicals which are NOT in the products. Isn’t that great? You can find great ingredients such as rosehip oil, wheat germ oil, evening primrose oil in these products.

What I don’t like 👎🏽:

I am not a fan of their body lotion, an inappropriate choice for during winter months. However, in summer it’s OK.

What I love 👍🏽:

My favorite skincare oil is rosehip oil and I use it from this brand. Rosehip oil is great for breakouts and even tone skin. I use them on my face for oil cleansing and it’s a life-saver.

What I don’t like 👎🏽:

Body butter from the brand was disappointing. I bought it for the winter months but wasn’t really impressed with it.

Note: I used the term “affordable” in comparison with other organic brands. All organic & non- toxic brands can be a bit expensive than drugstore brands since they use quality ingredients in their products.

Time for YOUR  action:

The first thing to keep in mind while switching to organic products is that it’s both time-consuming and expensive. However, it’s worth the investment. I really think it’s the best we can do for our skin.
