I have been obsessed with organic skincare for two years. But I do take a break from those products and don’t hesitate to pamper my skin with homemade DIY recipes. It can do wonders to our skin. Growing up, these were the only products I used on my face. In today’s post, I want to share some of my favorites. For those who are not sure whether DIYs are good for the skin, I would invite you to read the article here.

Let me list out some of the reasons why I use Natural Ingredients on my skin!

  • It is low- cost
  • They are easily available at the stores
  • Fresh ingredients are nutrient dense
  • They have Very Low- risk of allergy
  • I can trust them completely since I have been using for years!

Now it’s time for my favourite ingredients

Bentonite clay

What is Bentonite clay?

Bentonite clay is a mineral rich clay which has the ability to absorb the substances it comes in contact with. It soothes the skin and has anti-inflammatory property. This is one of the available clays in the nature and has been used in many cultures for years.

How to use?

You can find many skincare products with Bentonite clay but I personally love making a DIY mask with it. I normally buy a quality Bentonite clay and then mix it with a bit of water to create a clay-like consistency and apply on my face for around 15 minutes. Remember not to wait too long to wash it off since it can make your skin dry.

So the question is which is the best clay available? I’d say, Aztech Indian clay from Amazon( based on 15863 reviews).

Rosehip oil

What is Rosehip Oil?

According to Wikipedia, it’s a pressed seed oil, extracted from the wild rose bush.

Well, since it was a pretty vague explanation I tried to do more research on the exact process. That’s how I find the article which has much more details about Rosehip seed oil.

According to the article, the oil is separated from the hips and seeds through cold pressed extraction (no heat). Rosehip oil is a rich source of Vitamin A, C and E. Needless to say, this makes it the perfect choice for your skin care.

Note: cold -pressed extraction considered to be the best method to extract oil. Heated processing of oil can degrade the quality of oil.

How to use it?

I personally use it almost every day. This is my go-to oil for oil-cleansing. Here is a quick guide on how to do oil-cleansing:

  1. Take a few pumps of Rosehip oil in your hands
  2. Then massage that into the face in a gentle upward circular motion for at least five minutes.
  3. Next, a clean towel, wet it in hot water, squeeze out the excess and place it on the face until the towel cools down. The steam from the hot towel helps to get the oil into the skin. Through gentle stokes wipe away the oil.
  4. Repeat the process for a few times to remove all the oil from the face. You may need to repeat more if you are wearing excess make up. You don’t really need another cleanser after this. So you proceed with a toner or moisturizer. You can do in the morning and in the evening. I’d prefer evening.

Honestly, this oil did wonders to my skin. I don’t think I will ever stop using this. If you would like to try yours, pick it up from Amazon.

Chickpea flour / Garbanzo Bean flour

How to use it?

Probably you might have eaten chickpeas! But do you know you the chickpea flour is a great exfoliator for your face?

Even before the cleansers & masks, chickpea flour was the ONLY thing I used for my face. I am pretty sure that almost all Indian women would have used it at least once in their life time!

This is a great cleanser, exfoliator, and a mask. You can take the desired amount and add a little water/yogurt/ rose water. And make it a paste-like consistency. Once dry, wash it off. If you have dry skin you may consider adding a bit of oil into the mask.

The best way to make the flour is by grinding the chickpeas. However, it may not be a fine flour. If you are looking for a good brand to buy, you can buy from Amazon.

Honey

How to use it?

Honey is the best natural cure for health and wellbeing. So it should not come as a surprise that it is great for our skin. During winter months I find honey the best remedy to keep my face and lip moisturized.

For the face mask, I usually mix a tablespoon of Honey with a couple of drops of milk and apply on the face. To remove the dead skin from my lips, I make a quick scrub by combining Honey with Olive oil. When it comes to buying honey, you have to make sure that you buy the best quality! In my opinion, raw honey is the best. You can pick it up from the farmers market or from Amazon.

Aloe vera

How to use it ?

My mom loves Aloe vera so much that she has filled her garden with them. She forces me to apply the gel on my hair. At first, I wasn’t really happy to put the slimy substance on my hair. But once I did, it was such a relief for my scalp and it’s a natural conditioner for the hair. Now I love to use them if my scalp is dry. All you have to is pluck a leaf, slit it so that gel can come out easily and apply on the scalp. Leave it for at least fifteen minutes.

If you would like to try them I would recommend buying aloe vera plant from the plant store. I never bought any aloe vera gel from any brands.

Final thoughts:

These ingredients I have mentioned really impressed me so many times. After using them for years I learned that natural ingredients are the safest to put on our skin. Even though I use only Organic products, it can take ages to find genuine brands. Whereas, these natural ingredients are so affordable and easy to find. So go ahead and treat you skin with the natural wonders mother nature has given us.
